gate to Umbwe camp
Elevation: 5,249 ft to 9,514 ft
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Distance: 11 km | 7 miles
Habitat: Heath
Meals: Full Board
After a brief briefing
with a guide and mountain support staff who will meet you at the hotel in the
morning, you will drive to Umbwe Gate (1,640 m), the entrance to Kilimanjaro
National Park. Following the brief formalities of obtaining climbing permits
and signing up with the search and rescue service, the party will begin hiking
up to Umbwe Camp (2,930 m), which is your first camp. Do not rush because this
will be a hard-trekking day with a significant elevation gain. Finding the
ideal pace for your group and maintaining it during the journey are crucial.
Additionally, do not forget to pack rain gear because this route passes through
a rainforest, where tropical showers are highly probable.
Day 2: Umbwe
camp to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 9,514 ft to 13,044 ft
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 6 km | 4 miles
Habitat: Heath
Meals: Full Board
Breakfast, an early start,
and the beginning of the hike to Barranco Camp. If the weather is not too
overcast, you will be able to view the Meru Volcano for the first time as the
rainforest soon gives way to scrub. This day's trekking on the Umbwe Route will
be moderate in duration, and you will arrive at Barranco Camp (3,960 m), which
is tucked away inside a massive volcanic crack, about lunchtime. The
acclimatization process is greatly aided by the lunch that will be served here,
followed by the chance to unwind for the remainder of the day.
Day 3: Barranco
to Karanga camp
Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 5 km | 3 miles
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Full Board
Breakfast, an early start,
and the beginning of the Barranco Wall ascent (we advise leaving the camp as
soon as possible to escape the other groups' congestion). It takes about an
hour to hike up the gorge wall, and it is not tough. You can relax and snap
pictures in front of the Kibo volcano after the ascent. After that, you begin a
more challenging journey to Karanga Camp, which involves many climbs and
descents. Do not fear, though; our guides are skilled at determining the best
pace for the group. A hot meal will be provided to you once you arrive at the
camp. Following a few hours, you will need to finish a 200-meter gain in
altitude and then descend back down to the camp acclimatization hike toward
Barafu Camp.
Day 4: Karanga
to Barafu camp
Elevation: 13,106 ft to 15,331 ft
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 4 km | 2 miles
Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast in the
morning, you set out for Barafu Summit Camp (4,640 m), which serves as the base
for an overnight ascent of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). To allow you to unwind, our
staff will prepare a camp for you in advance, complete with tents and sleeping
bags. Following your recovery, you must trek an acclimatization course to the
intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp (4,800 m) before returning to Barafu Camp,
where a hot meal will be provided. Before night climbing, it is preferable to
rest and sleep for the rest of the day.

Around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru
Peak. Hike by the light of your headlamp for the next six hours. The ascent to
the crater rim is the most challenging part of the entire trek. The trail is
very steep until you reach the crater rim at Stella Point. The hike from Stella
Point to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and, as far as hikes go, not very
difficult. The altitude, however, makes the hike long and tiring. The crater
rim hike takes approximately one hour. Upon reaching Uhuru, take photos of your
guide and group at the peak before beginning the descent to Mweka Camp. On the
way down from Uhuru, enjoy views of the mountain, crater, clouds and glaciers.
At Barafu Camp, eat breakfast and take a short break. You still have another
three to five hours to go before reaching Mweka Camp.
Day 6: Mweka
Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevation: 10,065
ft to 5,380 ft
Hiking Time: 3-4
hours
Distance: 10

You will receive your summit certificates at the
Mweka Park Gate, which signifies the conclusion of your Mount Kilimanjaro trip,
after breakfast. It may be wet and muddy at lower elevations. Trekking poles and
gaiters will be useful tools. As long as you have rain gear and warmer clothes
on hand, t-shirts and shorts will work just fine. We will drive back to your
accommodation in Moshi for an Overnight stay.
