Our Advise

  •  Comfortably: Wear light, breathable clothes, as cooking over open flames or stoves can get warm, especially in Zanzibar’s tropical climate.
  • Bring a Notebook: Take notes on recipes, spice mixes, and cooking tips — You’ll learn traditional techniques worth remembering.
  • Arrive Hungry: You'll prepare and enjoy multiple dishes during the class, so it’s best to come with an empty stomach!
  • Ask Questions: Your host has plenty of culinary knowledge—don’t hesitate to ask about ingredients, traditions, or stories behind each dish.
  • Mention Dietary Needs: Let your host know in advance if you have allergies, dietary restrictions, or spice preferences so they can adjust accordingly.
  • Embrace the Spices: Swahili cooking is rich in spices like cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon—be open to bold and aromatic flavors.
