5 Days / 4 Nights Marangu Route to Mt. Kilimanjaro 

Here’s a clear breakdown:


Day 1: Moshi – Marangu Gate (1,860m) β†’ Mandara Hut (2,720m)

  • Morning: Drive from Moshi (about 1 hour) to Marangu Gate. Registration at Kilimanjaro National Park.

  • Midday: Begin trek through lush rainforest, spotting colobus monkeys, birds, and tropical vegetation.

  • Evening: Arrive at Mandara Hut, rest and enjoy hot meals.

  • Accommodation: Hut stay (dorm-style beds).

  • Hiking time: ~4–5 hours.


Day 2: Mandara Hut β†’ Horombo Hut (3,720m)

  • Morning: Trek through rainforest into moorland and heather zone.

  • Midday: Pass through Maundi Crater (great panoramic views of Kenya and Mawenzi peak if weather is clear).

  • Afternoon: Continue trek across rolling hills and moorland until Horombo Hut.

  • Evening: Acclimatization walk possible. Dinner and overnight at Horombo.

  • Accommodation: Hut stay.

  • Hiking time: ~6–8 hours.


Day 3: Horombo Hut β†’ Kibo Hut (4,703m)

  • Morning: Hike through Alpine desert landscape. Trails are open with stunning views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

  • Midday: Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo.

  • Afternoon/Evening: Arrive at Kibo Hut at the base of Kibo Crater wall. Rest early, as summit push begins at midnight.

  • Accommodation: Hut stay.

  • Hiking time: ~6–7 hours.


Day 4: Summit Attempt (Uhuru Peak 5,895m) β†’ Horombo Hut

  • Midnight – Early Morning: Start climb to the summit. Steep switchbacks and scree slopes to Gilman’s Point (5,685m) on the crater rim.

  • Sunrise: Continue along rim past Stella Point to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – the Roof of Africa.

  • Morning – Midday: After photos and celebrations, descend back to Kibo Hut for rest.

  • Afternoon: Continue descent to Horombo Hut.

  • Accommodation: Hut stay.

  • Total hiking time: ~12–16 hours (summit + descent).


Day 5: Horombo Hut β†’ Marangu Gate β†’ Moshi

  • Morning: Descend through moorland and rainforest to Mandara Hut, then down to Marangu Gate.

  • Midday: Receive summit certificates for those who reached Gilman’s Point, Stella Point, or Uhuru Peak.

  • Afternoon: Transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest.

  • Hiking time: ~6–7 hours.
