Galvanized steel coils are produced in two main processes: hot-dipped galvanized and electro-galvanized. It can be available in thicknesses from 0.13 to 0.8 mm and widths from 6 to 12.5 cm, with a maximum length of 10 feet (3 m) when unfolded.

Galvanised coil, a thin steel plate that is dipped into a molten zinc bath so that a layer of zinc adheres to its surface. A thin layer of zinc is applied to the steel to act as a barrier between the steel and the environment. The finish is applied by passing the steel through a molten pool of zinc at a high temperature. It is mainly produced by the continuous galvanising process, whereby coils of steel are continuously dipped in a bath of molten zinc to produce galvanised steel; alloyed galvanised steel. This type of stainless steel sheet is also manufactured by the hot dipping method, but immediately after leaving the bath it is heated to around 500°C to produce an alloyed coating of zinc and iron. This galvanised steel coil has good paint adhesion and weldability.
