A dental probe like the 23CP (or Explorer 23/CP Probe) is a double-ended instrument used by dental professionals to assess both tooth decay and periodontal health. On one end, the Explorer 23 (often called the Shepherd's Hook) detects caries (tooth decay) and identifies debris, while the other end, the CP (Color-Coded Periodontal) probe, uses millimeter markings to measure the depth of periodontal pockets, assess attachment loss, and check for subgingival calculus.
