The Northern Circuit Route of Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This relatively new route traverses almost the whole mountain before reaching the top, climbing Kilimanjaro's more picturesque and serene western slope. Because there are so few other groups on the northern face, this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and serene routes up Africa's highest peak.

DAY 0:  ARRIVAL AT MOSHI OR ARUSHA

A representative from Cliff Africa Adventure or your personal driver will pick you up at the airport (Kilimanjaro International Airport/JRO or Arusha Airport/ARK) and drive you to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi. Savor your evening as you get ready for your adventure to start the following day.

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will travel to the Londorossi Gate on Kilimanjaro's western flank, where our group of porters and guides will greet us. Our crew will get the food and equipment ready for our hike after we register your climb. While we wait for the weighing of our luggage and the completion of the other required travel procedures, we can relax and snap photos here. After that, we will start climbing. The trail climbs steadily into the mountain forest, and as the journey comes to a close, we will arrive at the first camp, which will be prepared and ready for us. We will sleep beneath the forest canopy tonight while we hear the calls of velvet monkeys and birds gently to each other a very special experience.

We move into the heath and moorland zone after leaving the jungle. We have breathtaking panoramic views today that extend to the Shira Plateau's rim, and we can take in the breathtaking vistas from the crest. Your body may have trouble adjusting to this day, but you will be in good hands and we will be taking frequent, brief breaks. After that, we will set our camp on the Shira Plateau.

In terms of elevation and geography, this is a short day. We will aim for a moderate hike of roughly 350 meters (1,148 feet). In addition to exploring the Shira Plateau and taking in vistas of Kibo, the largest of Kilimanjaro's three volcanic cones, we will use this day as a reset and acclimation.

DAY 4: SHIRA 2 CAMP TO MOIR HUT

This is a crucial day for your development and ascent of the mountain. A day of acclimation is essential. We will give you lunch when we reach the Lava Tower, let you recover, and then head down to Moir Hut, where we will veer off the main track.

Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

Distance: 12 km | 7 miles

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Meals: Full Board

We leave Moir by starting with a bit of a steep climb. We’ll then follow the trail that crosses a rock field up and then down. We’ll treat this as a recovery day, as we actually descend to 4,000m/13,100ft to Buffalo Camp where we will be served a delicious hot lunch.

DAY 6: BUFFALO CAMP TO THIRD CAVE CAMP

Elevation: 13,200 ft to 12,700 ft

Habitat: Heath

Meals: Full Board

We start the day by hiking around the mountain's northern slopes in the direction of its eastern flank. There are a few plants and some dust on this parched area. There will not be many other groups along the peaceful route. Before we arrive at the Third Cave Camp on this day, we will start to get a taste of the trek's peacefulness and isolation.

Uhuru Peak to millennium Camp

Elevation: 19,341 ft to 10,065 ft

Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Distance: 12 km | 7 miles

Habitat: Rain Forest

Meals: Full Board

After being roused with a hot cup of tea, a cookie, and a snack for the ascent, we start our summit push at midnight. From Hans Mayer Cave, where we will pause for a snack, we will begin the summit push by zigzagging our way to Gilman's Point. This is a difficult climb with loose ground beneath your feet that will take about two hours to complete. Because it will be cold and possibly windy, we will be walking at a rather leisurely pace. The sun will start to rise next to the Mawenzi Peak and behind you as we go closer to the crater rim. Keep in mind that the sun's warmth as it rises will ignite an inner fire within you that will increase your energy and motivate you to keep ploughing forward. At Gilman’s Point, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved rest and a snack before continuing to Uhuru Peak. You’ll be able to take some pictures at Uhuru Peak and enjoy the incredible views before we descend to Barafu Camp and have lunch. We will then gently walk down to Millennium Camp.

DAY 9: MILLENNIUM CAMP TO MWEKA GATE TO MOSHI TOWN OR ARUSHA

Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Distance: 10 km | 6 miles

Habitat: Rain Forest

Meals: Full Board

As we descend to the Mweka Gate, we will complete our amazing journey through a verdant forest. Having colobus/blue monkeys and melodious bird sounds to support us will make this long descent easier. After obtaining our summit certificate at the gate, we will sign out of the national park and proceed via a coffee farm before being returned to Moshi.
